Dilip Kumar Acharya learned Odissi Classical Music from the National Music Association under the guidance of Guru Shree Jivanananda Mishra and completed Visharad (Vocal) from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. Later Dilip also learned from Guru Dr. Damodar Hota from a short period of 1 1/2 years. Unfortunately Dilip could not pursue further after leaving India and moving to Africa. Dilip has been an avid admirer of Odissi classical music and dance as well as the literature. While in Orissa, Dilip was one of the few students of National Music Association who started ' Odissi Sangeet Parishad' to promote Odissi Music & Dance and organized monthly sittings 'Odissi Sandhya' at Ramchandra Bhawan, Cuttack and ran it successfully for three consecutive years. Many Students and demonstrators attended and presented in their sittings. Performers like Ramahari Das, Keshav Rout, Shyamamani Devi, Akhila Lenka etc demonstrated solo Odissi vocal singing and many students and Gurus performed Odissi Dance. Dilip has also accompanied with Odissi dance as a vocalist along with Guru in few programmes.
Dilip is a management professional, living in Africa and very excited to find the Odissi web portal dedicated on odissi music & dance and hopes to learn more on Odissi literature through the group and and share thoughts on the subject.
